After a year of training and auditioning, Brody landed the role of Barry Williams in the TV movie, Growing up Brady. He landed recurring roles on Gilmore Girls and the Canadian comedy television series Sausage Factory.

In 2003, he began playing his most famous role to date, Seth Cohen (a slightly awkward seventeen year old) on the television show, The O.C.
Brody appeared alongside Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, his biggest movie role to date.

Brody is currently dating his O.C. co-star Rachel Bilson.They started dating just after the O.C started to make it big and they already knew each other through friends before they started filming.

In 2004, he became the first O.C star to appear on the television show Punk'd. He plays the drums for the band Big Japan.
